12 The SIS license in detail

Here you can find components and procedures of the license verification for a better understanding of the SIS license and in order to avoid breakdowns due to unvalid licenses.

The SIS license is based on the two-key-principle with subscription. The first key is the serial number which will be generated dependent on the system environment.

The second key is the license which is based on the serial number and which codifies additionally the permitted amount of connections and the version.

License verification

A positive license verification in the SIS Server requires an appropriate serial number license couple and a permitted amount of connections. Hereby, SQL connections from the SQL parcel are not included.

The license verification will be implemented continuously during active process processing.

In case the License verification fails, the process processing will be deactivated.

Subscription

The subscription verification will be implemented when saving the license in the SIS administrator or after an expired day with active process processing. Hereby, the serial number will be sent to the SIS license server which will reply with a valid license if applicable.

In case, the subscription verification is not successful after more than 5 days, the process processing will be deactivated and an error notification will be sent by email if applicable.

In case, the permitted amount of connections or the version in the SIS license server have been changed, this will be updated in the SIS Server by the subscription.

Purchased version

In case, you have a purchased version of the SIS available, the license codifies also a maximum permitted SIS version. In case, this version will be exceeded, the license verification results negatively and the process processing cannot be activated.  

Serial number

The serial number serves for the identification of an SIS server installation. It will be generated from the serial number (VSN) of the logic disk drive "C" of the current system environment.

You can see the VSN by the instruction "vol C." or by the PowerShell. Changing the VSN leads to a new serial number and an invalid serial number license couple.

The serial number will be generated during the first license verification after starting the SIS server service and remains constantly in the memory during the programme implementation.

Online activation

The online activation is an one-off key for the SIS license server for the registration of a serial number. As soon as the registration is successful, this online activation is permanently connected with the serial number.   

In case, e. g. a new installation of the SIS is required, the online activation for requesting the license can again be used on the same server.

This is not possible with changed serial number for instance due to a server relocation.
